A group of Michigan men went to a cabin in the woods for a bachelor party. They came there empty handed but left with a lot more than they expected — they left with a dog and her puppies. When you think of bachelor parties, booze and Vegas comes to mind. Not rescue dogs. So how exactly did this happen?
Mitchel Craddock of Vicksburg, Michigan, told abc news:
“We were cooking bacon with the door open. The next thing you know, there’s this dog sitting right at the front door. She wouldn’t come inside, but she sat right there. She was very friendly but very skittish— I thought maybe she had been booted out of a house before.”
The dog actually stayed near the cabin even when the men went to town for a few hours at a time. She never strayed and was always there to greet the men when they came back. So that’s when the men decided that they needed to find out more about her.
The eight men who were celebrating soon realized that they were dealing with a undernourished mother. As soon as they gave her food and drink, the dog started producing milk again. That’s when they realized that the pups surely couldn’t have been a few days old. They needed to find those pups as soon as they can.
Soon the men saw that the dog came back again and again to that one spot in the woods. They decided to follow the dog into the woods. That’s when they saw a hole — a nest — where the pups stayed in. The hole was dug by the mother and to their surprise, the pups inside it were well-fed and actually had fat bellies.
“The mom had given the pups literally everything she had.”
“We set each pup individually down in front of her, and she nuzzled their faces, and she checked out the pups, and to the person holding them, she gave the look of ‘It’s OK, I trust you,’” Craddock, whose wedding was Oct. 8, told ABC News.
The groom and his groomsmen never saw any of this happening. So what initially was beer fund quickly turned into dog food fund on the 3rd day of their stay. The good news is that the mom and all her pups are going to be taken cared of. Friends and family all pitched in to help so all pups will have a place to stay. The groom initially didn’t want to take home a pup but the bride insisted. The groom already had a chocolate brown labrador but the bride-to-be had something to say.
“I proposed to her with our chocolate Lab, and now it’s our joke that for any of our big life events, we’ll get a dog,” Craddock said.
Now the groom and the bride are joking that they need to get a new puppy for every major milestone in their life as a married couple. We couldn’t be happier for these folks and those pups!
