“I Won’t Back Down” By Tom Petty Is Literally About Courage Under Fire
After an arsonist set fire to the home of Tom Petty, the musician wrote a song about the incident. Like Bob Dylan, Tom Petty was one of the greatest songwriters of all-time. He wrote great songs for himself and for other musicians.
“I Won’t Back Down” came out in 1989 on the album, Full Moon Fever. In addition to standing up to any oppressors, the song was also the first song from his solo album. It came when Petty left the Traveling Wilbury’s to join the Heartbreakers.
All of this happened after an arsonist burned down Petty’s house in 1987.
