The Big Bang Theory‘s Melissa Rauch will star in a new play alongside Girls’ Zosia Mamet. The politically satirical and charged play is entitled The Secret Lunches of Chelsea and Ivanka. Melissa took to Instagram to promote the project, saying, “If you’re in NYC, come join the incredibly talented [Zosia Mamet] and me in this benefit staged reading of my new play, “The Secret Lunches of Chelsea & Ivanka…” The staged reading is taking place at Joe’s Pub in NYC on July 24th.

The play was written by Melissa and her husband Winston Rauch. The pair were co-writers before they were even married, and they have previously created The Bronze together. The play will take place leading up to the 2016 presidential election, and will show an unlikely relationship between Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump. Knowing this pair, the play will most likely be funny, yet deep in its own right.

Melissa explained the project came about after she was inspired by Meryl Streep’s Oscar acceptance speech. The star said, “We were moved when Meryl Streep reminded us of Carrie Fisher‘s beautiful advice to, “Take your broken heart and make it into art” and this is our humble attempt to do so.
The idea for this play was sparked by a fascination over the reported friendship between Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump. We felt this provided a perfect filter through which we could fictionally explore the epic roller-coaster that led up to the election last November and a comedic requiem for the dream that so many of us held during that time.” Previously Melissa and Winston wrote The Mis-Education of Jenna Bush, so it seems they might have a fascination with first daughters.
