In addition to his illustrious music career, Tim McGraw has also spent some quality time on the big screen. With a wide variety of silver screen roles, he’s earned his stripes as an actor. But with some of his smaller parts, it’s easy to forget some of his movies. So here’s a rundown of all ten of McGraw’s films.

In this moving drama about the dangers of sports fever, McGraw took on the challenging role of Charlie Billingsley. Charlie is a retired football player who is abusive to his son. It was an emotional role that required McGraw to add some weight and (thanks to makeup effects) aging.

9. Black Cloud – 2005

McGraw came back onto the screen for the second time in the role of Sheriff Powers. Black Cloud is the story of a young Native American boxer struggling to make peace with the plight of his people. When Black Cloud has a violent fight with another man, McGraw’s character is charged with hunting him down.

Based on the classic fiction of Mary O’Hara, Flicka is the story of young Katie. Katie falls in love with a beautiful Mustang, that her rancher father believes will damage his livestock and land. But Katie is determined to show him otherwise. McGraw plays Katie’s father, and his own parenting skills are obvious in the film.

An intense drama of FBI counterterrorism and crippling bureaucracy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, McGraw didn’t have a starring role in The Kingdom. In fact, he had a very brief on-screen role as Aaron Jackson, the husband of a woman who was killed in the opening attack. But he made the most of it and proved worthy of his screen time.

6. Four Christmases – 2008

Notably, he wasn’t the only country star in the film. Dwight Yoakam also appeared onscreen as Pastor Phil.

McGraw had a lead role in this 2009 blockbuster. Based on the life of football star Michael Lewis, it’s a feel-good story that goes well beyond football. He played Sean Tuohy, husband of Sandra Bullock’s character, who was the force behind their adopted teen’s success.

4. Country Strong – 2010

Just as in The Blindside, McGraw again played second to a strong female lead in Country Strong. This time the starring role belonged to Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow played an aging country star struggling with addiction as she tried to remain relevant. McGraw played James Canter, Paltrow’s supportive husband.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, McGraw joked about the film, “There’s not much I can say about it because I read the script, I acted in the movie and I still don’t understand it.”
