2018 is gearing up to be an exciting year for country music, but one of it’s brightest stars seems to be hanging in the shadows. Carrie Underwood didn’t set any 2018 tour dates, which is unfortunate for her fans. This is especially true given all the time off she took last year. But she knows her priorities. And as such, she isn’t ready to return– at least to tour life.
“Waiting on the lightning”
About this time last year, Underwood announced that she was taking time away from her career to focus on being a wife to Mike Fisher and mother to their son, Isaiah. She had recently wrapped up her Storyteller tour, so the timing was just right. But it wasn’t just about her new roles. In an interview with People magazine, she explained her decision.
“I’m really excited about [taking time off], because you don’t know where you’re going to go,” she said. “I’m nervous because I want whatever I do next to be amazing, so I’m kind of taking a little break right now and being a mom and being a wife. I’m kind of waiting for lightning to strike and go: ‘Okay, it’s time to get creative and work on new music!’”
And it seems that lightning may have struck. It just isn’t taking her back on the road.
Though she won’t be on tour in 2018 (barring any changes that may occur), Underwood does plan to return to the studio and start recording again. It’s been a year since she released an album, so from her fans’ point of view, it’s certainly time. As Taste of Country noted, this is also the silver lining to her announcement about her facial stitches.
However, they also point out that her facial injury could complicate the matter. Singing could be painful or limited depending on where the injury occurred and how it healed. But the fact that she announced that she is returning to the studio says that she doesn’t think it will interfere. And she’s also planning on being in front of cameras again soon.
Doing It On Her Terms
If she does release an album this year, she will certainly be back in the limelight promoting it. Regardless, she has such a fan base that she could easily return to touring in 2019. But maybe she has a 2018 surprise and we will see her for a few dates. Either way, you have to hand it to her that she is doing her life on her terms.
