Luke Bryan had a stellar 2017, but the 2018 forecast is predicting his biggest year yet. He has a new tour, is going international, and he’s also becoming a judge on reality television. In a recent interview, Bryan discussed his excitement about this new year and what he hopes his fans decide about his career.
Bryan’s first bit of fun is hosting his annual Crash My Playa concert January 17-20 in Riviera Maya, Mexico. This country music event is really a mini-festival, with four days of performances at the all-inclusive resort The Barceló Maya. In addition to Bryan, Blake Shelton and Sam Hunt will also headline this year’s show. It’s a really neat blend of vacation and concert-going in a more intimate setting than most festivals.
After he finishes partying in Mexico for four days, Bryan then heads out on his “What Makes You Country” tour, named after his latest album (which quickly shot to No. 1). The official tour kicks off February 16th in Springfield, Missouri and wraps up in late July in Wisconsin. In addition to his numerous domestic dates, Bryan is taking the tour international this year with three March concerts in Australia (and will hit Canada).
“I could almost say that this will be the biggest year of my life,” Bryan said. “And I’m looking forward to getting into it. I mean, we’re going to Australia for the first time. I’m so excited to be going down there, and that’s all before the end of March. So who knows what’s gonna happen come April and the rest of the year?”
There is one thing we know that will happen in the rest of this year. That is Bryan‘s stint as a judge on American Idol, which premieres March 11. Bryan joins fellow judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie for the show’s ABC premiere season. For point of reference, ABC is naming this year’s run as season one, delineating it from the 15 seasons it ran on Fox.
The “Biggest Year Yet”
Certainly, Bryan recognizes all the opportunities in store for him this year. But he also recognizes that his fans make the ultimate decision about his career. “I think the fans and what people see out of me will determine whether this is my biggest year ever or not,” Bryan remarked. “I mean, I know I’m certainly gonna be out there a lot working with Idol and my tour and the stuff that we’ve got planned and the venues that I know we’re gonna put on the tour.”
Given the recent success of his new album, it certainly looks like 2018 will be his “biggest year yet.”
