2 Ways The Big Screen Influenced Reba McEntire’s Music Career

The Queen of Country has a long and illustrious history in both music and film. And it was almost three decades ago that Reba McEntire made her silver screen debut. McEntire appeared in Tremors, a horror movie set in a small town. Her performance in that first movie was amazing. It definitely set the stage for her continued career in television and movies.

Tremors is a really campy movie that released in 1990. It stars (a very young) Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, and Michael Gross. It’s the story of a small-town that is ravaged by underground creatures that are attempting to murder all the townspeople. McEntire played Heather Gunner. Heather was a survivalist who came to assist with the situation. You can see McEntire play her character in the movie trailer (video posted below). One of her awesome lines is captured in the preview: “You didn’t get penetration even with the elephant gun,” she says as the man next to her fires a shot at one of the creatures.

The movie is supposed to be a horror film but it’s difficult not to view it as a comedy. This is especially true now, as graphics have far surpassed what was available in 1990.
