Reba’s divorce rattled her world. She previously admitted that she didn’t want to end her 26-year marriage to Narvel Blackstock. So much so that despite the fact the split occurred in 2015, she didn’t date right after. But times change and people heal. And now she says she is ready to move on and is looking for love and getting dating advice from her son.
Looking for Love
At 61 years old, Reba probably didn’t imagine going back on the dating market. This is particularly true given how much she didn’t want to get divorced in the first place. As she told CMT’s Cody Alan, “The divorce was not my idea. I didn’t want it in any shape, form or fashion,” she said last year. “So it was really hard to make the adjustment when someone’s not happy. I just want everybody to be happy in their lives, because our lives are too short to be miserable.”
She knew she had to move on. “I’m going to keep on loving life. I’m going to keep making new friends. I’m going to call the ones I love in my life — my friends and family — a little more often and I’m going to keep on telling them how much they are loved,” she said after the split. But she wasn’t ready to date, not until now.
McEntire recently revealed to Closer Weekly that she is looking for love. “I think it’s always nice to have somebody to go to dinner with and fall in love with,” she said. But she also revealed that her son Shelby has some particular rules for anyone looking to date his famous mother (Shelby is the son Reba had with ex-husband Blackstock).
“I feel 35”
Reba alluded to the fact that her son wants to make sure she isn’t ‘looking for love in all the wrong places,’ as the song goes. So he some ideas.
The most important thing? Age. Reba recently revealed that Shelby doesn’t want her to date anyone younger than 50. But according to One Country, she sees it differently. “I don’t think I agree,” she rebutted. “In my mind, I’m 35.”
Reba isn’t one to follow rules, so it will be quite interesting to see how this plays out.
