The current CMA Male Vocalist of The Year has just released a new single. Chris Stapleton‘s “Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind” has the blues sound that is defined by his brand of country. It comes ahead of his December 1 album release.
“Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind”
The new single gives every indication that Stapleton has no intention of deviating far from his recipe for success. In addition to his Male Vocalist Award, he won another title. His last project, From A Room: Volume I, won Album of the Year.
Its sequel (appropriately titled From A Room: Volume II) releases the beginning of December. “Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind” gives listeners a peek into the contents of his new project.
The song is pure Stapleton, Bluesy with a mix of classic country sounds. It also embraces traditional honkey tonk themes. Stapleton sings of chasing women, spending money, and shooting whiskey as ways to untangle his mind (You didn’t really think there would be a Stapleton song without whiskey, did you?).
Stapleton wrote the song with Jaron Boyer and Kendall Marvel. His wife, Morgane Stapleton, provides the harmonies. You can hear her beautiful backup voice on many of his tracks.

The famous Dave Cobb produced this second volume in the series. Cobb also plays acoustic guitar on the record. Other featured band members are J.T. Cure on bass and Derek Mixon on drums. According to Rolling Stone, the album was recorded at Nashville’s iconic RCA Studio A.
Stapleton’s All-American Road Show Tour recently finished. Final shows were in Oklahoma City and Omaha, featuring special guests Marty Stuart and Brent Cobb. The tour will resume in 2018.
Luckily for fans, they have some new music for the break. Thanks to his new album, Christmas comes early.
