Blake Shelton spends so much time exchanging shade with ex-wife Miranda Lambert that many fans don’t even know that he was married before. Lambert is actually his second ex-wife. His first is Kaynette Williams, whom he married in 2003. And what is most interesting about her is how that first marriage ended– and what a hypocrite it makes Blake Shelton. Here are all the details about Kaynette and why his first wife is in the spotlight again.
Blake Shelton Marries Kaynette Gern
Before she was Kaynette Williams (her current name), she was Kaynette Gerns. A hometown beauty, she and Shelton were high school sweethearts in their hometown of Ada, Oklahoma. They married in Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 2003. The ceremony took place while Blake Shelton was on a break from his tour with Toby Keith. And it was a few years after his first big No. 1 hit, “Austin”, which released in 2001.
Country Fancast reported Shelton’s words at the time about his marriage to Kaynette (who also served as his road manager). “I knew Kaynette was the one,” Shelton said. “Just because I can’t explain it I can’t say it’s because we get along or because of the way she looks. It’s just something I feel – you know what I mean? It’s nothing more than just knowing you’re right.”
Despite knowing he was “right,” and the fact that Kaynette helped propel his career, it wasn’t long into their marriage before trouble struck. Trouble named Miranda Lambert.
Blake Shelton Meets Miranda Lambert
Sometimes chemistry is undeniable and inescapable. And such was the case in the fated love story of Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.
The two met during CMT’s “100 Greatest Duets” concert. They were paired together to sing “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma.” And standing together onstage, the chemistry between them was, in fact, undeniable and inescapable. As Shelton remarked about it later to VHI, “I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody. I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”
And he was correct. It shouldn’t have been happening because he was married. And sadly for Kaynette, it was Shelton meeting Miranda Lambert that brought her short marriage to an end.
