Blake Shelton, who was recently named The Sexiest Man Alive, has placed country music prominently in the spotlight during his time on The Voice. Here’s a recap of country mentors and coaches from the show.
In Season 12, Luke Bryan joined as a mentor on Blake Shelton’s team. He spent the season guiding contestants through their battles to remain on Shelton’s team. According to The Tennessean, his time also included spending “a couple of days in rehearsals with Shelton and his 12 contestants to offer the singers guidance on everything from stage presence to song arrangements and staying on pitch.”
Season 13 continues to employ country music superstars with bands such as Rascal Flatts. In an interview, the band’s Gary LeVox says, “Blake’s got such a great ear turning his chair around and finding great people, so it’s been awesome meeting them and giving them some tips. It’s been a lot of fun working with him. A lot of talent, a lot of talent on Team Blake.”
Another country star, Billy Ray Cyrus, serves as an advisor on his daughter‘s team in Season 13.
Blake Shelton is the longest-tenured country coach on the show. But a few other country names are now in the mix.
Miley Cyrus coached on Season 11 and is currently serving as coach again.
Additionally, Kelly Clarkson is being promoted to coach for next year’s 14th season. This move was slightly controversial considering she was also offered a position as a judge on American Idol. Despite getting her start on Idol, she had already committed to The Voice.
The competition definitely cultivates and promotes a country music sound, although whether this translates to radio hits is up for debate. Continue to be on the lookout for country stars as they consistently lend their vocals to The Voice!
