Blake Shelton has an amazing collection of No. 1 albums. With such a big body of work, it’s easy to forget some of his earlier albums. Thanks to his last album, he now has six that have reached the top of the charts. Here’s a review of all of his awesome records.
All About Tonight (EP)
This 2010 album was Shelton’s second “six-pack” album. In an interview with The Boot, he explained his reasoning behind the six-song idea.
“Nashville has been looking for ways to try to get people back into the stores and buy albums again,” he said. “You hear a song on the radio these days, and you just pull out your phone and buy it off the internet right then, and you forget about it. We’re looking for ways to remind people that we still make albums, and there’s still cool music that you may or may not hear on the radio. So we decided to do a six-song album, and it’s really cheap! It’s like five dollars and change.”
The idea worked. The album went to No. 1.
Red River Blue
Just a year after his first No. 1 album, Blake Shelton scored again with Red River Blue. This album contained the hit single “Honey Bee.” Interestingly, the Shelton wrote and recorded the title track with then-wife Miranda Lambert. All four of the singles from the record went to No. 1 (“Honey Bee,” “God Gave Me You,” “Drink On It,” and “Over”). In 2016, the album was certified double-platinum.
Based On A True Story
This 2013 record took Shelton to the top of the charts with “Sure Be Cool If You Did” and “Boys Round Here.” The latter song went on to be a sort of anthem for Shelton’s career. The album was a case of art-imitating-life for Shelton. I was listening to the album and I thought, ‘Man, every song on here is either “Been there, done that,” or I’m doing it right now,’ ” he explained, “so it really is my true life.”
Bringing Back the Sunshine
Blake Shelton hit the top again in 2014, his second time to have consecutive years with No. 1 albums. And once again, all of the singles released went to No. 1. These were “Neon Light,” “Lonely Tonight,” “Sangria,” and “Gonna.” This was his final album during his marriage to Miranda Lambert, who he divorced in 2015.
If I’m Honest
This 2016 record was Shelton’s divorce album. Following his split from Miranda Lambert, Shelton has several songs that point to what actually occurred during their marriage. “She’s Got A Way With Words” was one of those, though that is debatable given that he put that song on hold months before the split. Either way, this is widely considered to be his breakup record.
The most recent of his albums, Blake Shelton immediately jumped to No. 1 again with this 2017 release. This latest work solidified his standing as a country artist, with hits such as “I’ll Name The Dogs.” It also seemed to indicate that he had moved on in his life from his divorce. The title comes from a lake on the border between Texas and Oklahoma, the latter of which is Shelton‘s native state. He also resides there.
So which is your favorite of Shelton’s No. 1 albums?
