If you have many books, you probably need bookshelves to organize them. However, not all of us want to pay hundreds of dollars for the fancy hardwood bookshelves sold in furniture stores.

If you are looking for ideas for affordable and DIY shelves for your precious business books, textbooks, or novels, you’ve come to the right place!

In this article, we have listed some of the most ingenious and easy to make storage spaces for your hardbound and paperbacks. Most of these DIY shelves can be made using free or cheap materials.

Branch and Board Bookshelf http://www.diyncrafts.com/7517/home/40-brilliant-diy-shelves-will-beautify-home

If you live somewhere near trees, you can use four fallen branches to make a stand for your bookshelf.

You can also have someone cut some branches from trees (if it’s not prohibited where you live).

After getting the branches, nail them on a bench to make a four-post stand. After this, position your wooden boards and attach them to the stand using wood glue, nails or screws.

Ladder or Crutch Bookshelves http://www.decoist.com/2013-12-23/ladder-shelves-storage-display-ideas/

The next 2 bookshelf ideas ave almost the same procedures!

Once you get the 2 ladders, simply insert boards or planks on the steps. To make the bookshelf stable, you can drill holes on the steps and boards, and secure them with screws.

For the crutch, use small wood panels. To make the crutches stand, place them face to face and bind them using wood and screws.  You likely don’t want to use this idea, if you are going to put big, heavy books on the shelf.

Modular Wine Box Bookshelf https://alightdelight.wordpress.com/2013/08/11/d-i-y-modular-shelves/

If you are a wine connoisseur, you probably have a lot of wine boxes lying around. And now, you’ll be happy you haven’t thrown them out yet.

You don’t have to have engineering, architectural, or carpentry skills to do this one. Before attaching the boxes together, lay them on the floor or stack them up first.

The more asymmetric the stacking is, the better. You can achieve this by laying them on the long side and short side alternately. Finally, attach them together using screw or wood glue. You can paint your bookshelves or put varnish on it.

Tip: It would be better if you put a solid base for this bookshelf, as support.

Invisible Bookshelf https://www.dennisfamily.com.au/6-creative-bookshelf-ideas-for-your-new-home/

This is probably the simplest out of all the DIY bookshelves on this list.

For this bookshelf, you need an L-shaped wall brace (or metal bookends), screws, and old hardbound books.

First of all, drill a hole into the wall where you want to install the bookshelf. Screw the brace or bookend on the wall, making an inverted “L”. Make sure that you use enough screws to support the weight of your books.

Finally, glue the back cover of an old book (you can get cheap old books at book sales) to the horizontal part of the brace or bookend. Make sure the spine of the book is facing you.

You can now put books on your invisible bookshelf! You can (and you should) make as many of these bookshelves as you need.

Paint Bucket Bookshelf http://www.brit.co/diy-shelves/

Okay, first and foremost, we’re talking about the larger paint buckets here. If you have those lying around your basement or garage, you can use them to create unique bookshelves.

The first thing you should do is clean the paint buckets. After cleaning, cut the buckets using the width of your books as a size reference.

You can paint the interior and exterior of the buckets with different colors.  Up to you!!  After that, attach the buckets to your wall using screws.

Voila! We hope you got ideas for your bookshelves. Have some other DIY bookshelf ideas? Share it with us in the comments.
