Tips For Yoga Beginners

Attending your first yoga class can be overwhelming. You might be unsure of what to wear, how to act, or what to expect. We’re here to help. Practicing yoga is incredibly beneficial. Get ready to experience a totally positive change in your life.

First, don’t eat a huge meal beforehand. Like with any form of exercise, you’ll want to be properly fueled. There’s nothing worse than exercising while you’re hungry and feeling depleted. However, eating a giant cheeseburger or other heavy foods can cause you to feel nauseous during class. You’ll be going upside down, twisting, and moving in weird ways. Eat a light meal an hour before and you’ll be good to go.

Second, don’t worry about what you wear. As long as you are comfortable and able to move freely, you’re good to go. Many yoga beginners see the many brands and assume that only expensive leggings, tops, and gear are acceptable. Anything you would wear to the gym is okay. Your instructor won’t be judging you for wearing pants that weren’t labeled “for yoga” in the store.

Third, be prepared to feel silly. Some poses, mantras, and chants might seem silly and uncomfortable to yoga beginners. Go in with an open mind. You might feel strange at first, but once you leave with a post-class afterglow, you’ll see what all the hype is about.

Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy

Fourth, remember that comparison is the thief of joy. You might be the fittest kid in the weight room or the fastest runner on the block, but yoga will still be a challenge from the beginning. This is an entirely new way of moving. Allow yourself time to adjust and don’t compare yourself to the person next to you who’s been practicing for years.

And fifth, get ready to have your life changed. Yoga will change you both physically and spiritually. Be prepared to feel better than ever. You’ll be more in tune with your body. You’ll also start to feel peace of mind, and you might even want to start going to class more often.

We hope our tips and tricks help you to start yoga smoothly.
