When depression sets in, it’s incredibly difficult to overcome it. There is a combination of steps to take including counselling or, advice from a medical professional. The perils of depression are far-reaching. Dealing with depression is very much about understanding why it happens and how it affects you and the most important element when dealing with depression is to take small but significant steps towards recovery. This is empowering and, little by little, you regain control over your life.

Depression is more common than you might realize. Approximately one out of every eight women is likely to experience the symptoms of depression at some point. So, don’t feel that you are alone even though depression by its very nature makes you feel isolated. There are many reasons as to why you may start to feel this way and so, it’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms.

  • Fatigue
  • Loss of interest
  • Dark, bleak mood
  • Hopelessness
  • Worthlessness
  • Guilt
  • Weight gain or weight loss
  • Increased appetite or reduced appetite
  • Insomnia or, sleeping much more
  • Lack of concentration
  • Fixation on death
  • Suicidal thoughts

The hardest part of dealing with depression is being able to take those first, tentative steps. This can seem like a massive effort and when mood is low, and you are experiencing fatigue, even the slightest of effort to change can seem too much.  However, by doing so, you will start to feel better.
