How Self-Care Can Boost Your Health And Mental State


There are times when you need to pamper yourself and to nurture your well-being so to give your health and mental state a much-needed boost. You may have been under extreme pressure or have been working too hard, but either way, it’s time for some self-care. Are you ready to be kind to you?

Let the nurturing begin

Self-care means starting to look after your needs. When you have had a long day, nothing beats a hot bath to eradicate any aches and pains and to put your world to rights. Although you may have a favorite bubble bath to use, instead, consider using aromatherapy oils as these can make bath-time extra special. You can also personalize your bath depending on how you are feeling on that day. As an example, if you have a cold coming on, use eucalyptus essential oil, adding a few drops to the bath so you open the airways. It also works well for aches and pains caused through having a cold. If you are having a bath before going to bed, add lavender instead as this has natural sedative qualities and will relax you. You can also add a few drops to the pillow.

Self-care through meditation

Meditation is another great way in which to look after yourself. You can use it at any time of the day or, at night before going to sleep. With meditation, you can put the whole world to rights in a matter of minutes and, clear the clutter from your mind which may have previously prevented you from sleeping well. Use meditation to heal yourself. Whether anxiousness, emotional turmoil or to offset stress, meditation can be used in multiple ways. Importantly, you can alleviate the bombardment of thoughts that will plague you if not careful.

Sleep well

Nothing makes you feel better than a good night’s sleep. If you are struggling with your sleep patterns, try some Valerian. This herb has wonderful sedative qualities and when taken just before you go to bed, it will relax you ready for a good night’s sleep.  


Pamper your skin

It can be fun and therapeutic to make yourself a facial mask so to give tired skin a boost. This home-made facial mask uses oatmeal which is readily available. Just use ½ cup of hot water and add to 1/3 cup of oatmeal. Allow to sit for several minutes. Then add, plain yoghurt, just 2 tbsp is sufficient and add the same quantity of honey. Finally, add 1 egg white. Add this mixture to your face and relax back for 10 minutes or so. Rinse off with tepid water. This will have a wonderful revitalizing effect on your skin.

Self-care with affirmations

When the world is against you and life feels much tougher than it should be, it’s good to spend some time evaluating your life. Use affirmations to increase positive feelings and well-being. If you have not used affirmations before, write them in a positive way i.e. I AM strong or, I AM ready for the challenges of life etc. Personalize them but always make sure they are written and stated with positive intent. Say them with great conviction to help endorse their message. 

Use any of these self-care techniques when your mood drops or if you just need a general pick-me-up. They really do work. Importantly, you can fit them into your life quite readily.
