Meditation practiced regularly provides you with many things. Inner peace, calmness and a sense of stillness in a somewhat chaotic world but, it does something else too, it gives you the chance to explore the essence of who you are and to develop self-awareness. That’s important.
Struggling to live up to your own expectations?
We often struggle to reach our full potential because there are so many obstacles to overcome in life and these can litter the way forward. But, you also have to wade through any expectations too.
These may be self-imposed or those created by the expectations or demands of others. Meditation paves the way forward.
When you try to thrive in a competitive environment, it’s important to know who you are, to understand your strengths and any areas of development. But, above all else, it’s important to re-connect with that person caged inside and to like them, faults and all.
Overcoming self-imposed barriers
When life is busy, it’s often difficult to find the time to truly get to know yourself. Sometimes, it can feel as if you are living life on the run, life may be transient or, too fixed.
How does that feel?
If you regularly become self-doubting, this may fuel another negative. states of mind including feelings of anger or being fearful, perhaps of failure. These will hold you back.
Within each meditative practice, you have the opportunity to discover who you are. You can explore thoughts, behaviors, and actions and consider them without judgment.
Think of this as a way of getting to know yourself in the same way as you would others. When you meet someone for the first time, it’s natural to form opinions of them and this early meeting forms the foundation of that connection.
Stripping back the layers
We are all complex and have our own set of needs. This is what makes people incredibly interesting.
When you turn your attention inwards, you get to know the real you. You strip back the layers of experiences and emotions and may reveal some surprising truths. These may be comforting and like greeting an old friend.
It’s important to have some quiet time to yourself when you embark upon a journey of self-discovery such as this. As you become used to exploring facets of yourself that have been hidden away for years, know that the path forward can be revealing and emotive.
As your mind settles, and you focus on the inhalation and exhalation, the meditation becomes easier. You no longer doubt who you are. With acceptance comes a state of bliss and it is this that will ripple outwards to all areas of your life.
