Eevee Evolution

Eevee is one unique Pokémon; even on classic Pokémon games, you evolve into different elemental varieties based on the use of special items, its happiness level, moves it has available and even the time of day. Typically, Pokémons in Pokémon Go will just need candies taken from collecting the same Pokémon but this adorable little fox-like creature needs a little bit more work to get the evolution you need.

eevee evolutionEevee is the only one of the original 151 Pokémon to feature branched evolution:

other Pokémon evolve down a set path, but Eevee can evolve randomly into one of three different variety: the electric-type Jolteon, the fiery Flareon, or the water-based Vaporeon. Random, that is, unless you use a certain method discovered by a clever Redditor. You choose the evolution by nicknaming the unevolved Eevee:

  • If you want a Flareon (fire), you will nickname Eevee Pyro
  • If you want a Jolteon (electric), you will nickname Eevee Sparky
  • If you want a Vaporeon (water), you will nickname Eevee Rainer

Why Sparky, Rainer and Pyro? These are the names of the Eevee brothers from the Pokémon TV series, who meet with Ash and the crew in episode 40.

Changing nicknames is easy peasy! Just bring up your list of caught Pokémon and find Eevee on your list, then tap in its name to edit it. You may need to quit and restart the app to double check if the name change has been saved. Once you have double check the name change, feed it with 25 Eeevee candy and it should take the form of your chosen type. See how it goes on the video below:

Weee! This trick has been confirmed with 100% success!
