MELISSA MCBRIDE: “There’s Two Sides To Carol”, And The One You’ll See Next IS…

Two Sides To Every Character

Carol certainly has two sides to her, like many of the characters on The Walking Dead. Rick wants to be a farmer but often needs to be a warrior. Daryl prefers to be a loner, but the group always needs him. Carol wants peace but excels in war.

As a character, Carol has had the most interesting story arc. She’s grown from an abused wife and mother to one of the baddest vigilantes in the apocalypse. Despite her search for peace, it’s clear it’s time to prepare for war.

Melissa McBride recently spoke about playing both sides of the character.

“There’s a little something to every side of Carol that I like,” said the actress. “With trying to maintain that core of who she is through all of it, I really have to think about what parts of her defense and what is a tactic for her own survival.”

McBride continued, “That comes in waves of being standoffish and just perhaps downright rude. She genuinely is just not wanting to be responsible for people’s lives and doesn’t want to be put back in the position of having to fight again because she knows exactly what that means for her and what that will do to her.”

Unfortunately, it looks like there’s something within her that doesn’t really give her the option not to fight.

If Carol had gotten away without getting shot, then she may have continued to simply walk the earth (like Caine from Kung Fu). That’s not what happened, though, and now her past has caught up with her.

Carol is stepping back into that version of herself that we saw back in Terminus. She’s going to do whatever it takes to protect her people and that’s certainly going to take away another big chunk of her.

After Negan’s war begins, it may take more than she has to give.

Do you think Carol will come out of the other side of this war?
