Negan Just Revealed The Truth About His Wife, And It Makes Us Kinda Love Him Now

“My first wife was a real wife,” said Negan, through the door to Father Gabriel. After spending some time cooped up in a trailer surrounded by walkers, it seems that Negan and Father Gabriel have grown fond of one another.

Since Father Gabriel was spared, he believes that he must have some greater purpose during the apocalypse. In “The Big Scary U,” he even said his purpose may be to take Negan’s confession.

In a way, Father Gabriel did get a confession from Negan. During their conversation, audiences got to see some of Here’s Negan come to life.

While he never says it outright, it’s clear that Negan named his bat on his late wife, Lucille. In addition, he also tells the story of how he entered the apocalypse and his greatest weakness.

Essentially, Negan’s wife got sick before the outbreak. Guilty of cheating on her during their marriage, he decided to stay with her every second. She died in the hospital while the outbreak happened outside.

This is similar to what happened to Rick Grimes.

“My only real wife,” added Negan. “Till death did us part. It was before this. I lied to her. I screwed around on her. She was sick. And when she went, it was during this. I couldn’t put her down,” he said. “That is how I was weak. That is what I will confess.”

During this confession, Negan told Father Gabriel (and audiences) the truth about the real Lucille. While he didn’t say her real name, this is the beginning of the story behind the comic, Here’s Negan.

In addition, he also revealed the truth about working in a school. Hopefully, we’ll get to see a little more to the Negan backstory. For now, this history lesson actually tells us more about his future.

Because he believes this to be his biggest weakness, that means he doesn’t regret anything he’s done since. That is a truly scary thought, especially if Negan were to possibly win the war.

Do you think we’ll get to see more of Negan’s backstory on The Walking Dead?
