The Walking Dead And Game Of Thrones Suffer From This Progress Dilemma

Because of the massive popularity of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, the two shows are often compared to one another. The AMC series has zombies and the HBO series has white-walkers, which are similar but much more intelligent. However, both shows have two major problems holding back their progress.

On Game of Thrones, creator George R. R. Martin has a fascination with history, specifically the War of the Roses. Likewise, creator Robert Kirkman, who created Rick Grimes and company, clearly gets inspiration from events prior to the industrial revolution. His protagonist Rick has also been compared to Cincinnatus.

All in all, both shows are trying to move forward, even if that means very different things. The zombie drama on AMC exists on a small scale where people are trying to survive on dwindling food, in addition to enemies and zombies. The HBO series is more about power.

Either way, both shows are heavily limited by any progress because of the living death that approaches every day. But it’s actually the people on The Walking Dead and the dragons on Game of Thrones that have halted true progress for all of the different societies involved.
