Robert Kirkman Talks Zombies Vs. Aliens
Other than the blood-thirsty zombies that roam the undead universe, The Walking Dead setting is relatively reflective of life today. However, creator Robert Kirkman almost decided to include aliens in the comic series.
Robert Kirkman told fans, “Very early on in the series, I started getting letters where people would say, ‘You say you’re going to do this book for a really long time, but this idea doesn’t seem to have any legs.”
With this, it would ruin the series.
“My Response Was A Joke…”
Robert Kirkman added, “My response as a joke was, ‘Oh, we’re going to this until issue 75, and then I’m going to run out of ideas, and then I’m going to do an alien invasion and just kind of completely ruin the book.”
At this time of these comments, The Walking Dead was still a relatively unpopular comic book. Now, even a joke about an alien invasion will engage (or enrage) fans who love the comic and the television series.
Robert Kirkman said the aliens would arrive and The Governor would return as a Cyborg, sent to kill everyone.
The Governor Returns As A Cyborg
Surprisingly, there are a few panels that show this insane future! In the comic, we see colored pages of aliens invading The Walking Dead. Rick suits up in a superhero costume and prepares to battle a cyborg version of The Governor.
Besides the zombies, an army of aliens are trying to take over the world. It’s everything we could possibly expect to see in an alien invasion on The Walking Dead and beyond.
The pages were leaked as a joke, but comic book fans took it all too seriously.
Long-time fans chimed in to tell him he had ruined the beloved comic book. Others laughed, obviously, understanding the invasion was just a joke.
In the “Letter Hacks” section of the new comics, the joke was explained to calm down fans who were upset about Kirkman’s prank. Some people skipped over the “Letter Hacks” and didn’t understand the fan pages were only meant as a joke.
Do you think we’ll ever see aliens on The Walking Dead?
