Robert Kirkman Addressed Mind Boggling Timeline Of The Walking Dead

0

The Walking Dead has been on AMC for eight years but the timeline is confusing, to say the least. Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comic book, has been writing the stories for 15 years. Even so, the comic doesn’t necessarily need to move forward like the show.

At the most obvious level, the literal growth of Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) and the interchangeable actresses for baby Judith show that the show has been on for years. For example, when Carl attacked Negan in Season 7, he was still only around 10 years old in the comic. In real life, the boy has aged eight years.

During a panel at the recent Walker Stalker Cruise, creator Robert Kirkman addressed the issues with the timeline.

Robert Kirkman Gives A Vague Answer, But…

Robert Kirkman tried to keep the exact number a secret but he did reply to the fan. “Season One to now, let’s see here, Carl aged how many years? We know internally how much time we think passed between here and now but because of different factors that I’m not gonna go into, it’s not something that we talk about publicly…”

The above comment is already confusing and misleading, but this could have something to do with the Fear crossover. Then, Robert Kirkman added, “But we are making sure that we know how much time has passed and we are keeping track.”

For an official answer, he said the number of years is “less than five,” so Carl Grimes is presumably only fifteen years old on the show.

Season 6, 7, and 8 Creep Along Slowly

In Season 8, we’ve really been creeping along. Fans of the show keep asking about Maggie’s pregnancy (around 2 years ago from our end), which has only been around 5-6 weeks in their time. This means, in their view, Glenn just died.

Some of the older seasons had some time pass between seasons but the last three seasons have happened in a few weeks. Since most shows do not move this way, it’s a little complicated for viewers.

The rest of Season 8 will likely also creep along but we may have a time jump in the near future that pushes us forward a year or more. Then again, this could have something to do with a time jump on Fear the Walking Dead.

What do you think of Kirkman’s answer to the question?
