Fear the Walking Dead gave us a taste of the apocalypse’s beginnings in Los Angeles. In the real world, it looks like the zombie outbreak may be taking place… in New York City!
Last summer, emergency workers in Brooklyn were called to a “mass casualty” event. Normally, that’s a term associated with the terrible string of mass shootings in the past few years. This time, there wasn’t a gun or a bullet in sight. Instead, it seemed to be a crowd of real-life zombies.
According to the New York Times, emergency medical technicians reported on a group of people on the scene, “all of whom had a degree of altered mental status that was described by bystanders as “zombielike.”
Presumably, they were attacking people and trying to eat them. More likely they were just wandering around in a trance.
There was no viral outbreak to blame, though. Instead, it was a synthetic drug, and you’ll never believe where it came from…
AK-47 24 Karat Gold

A new report reveals that eight of the 18 men hospitalized that day were found to have overdosed on a new designer drug called AMB-FUBINACA. Actually, that’s the official name; the drug is more commonly known by its much catchier street name, AK-47 24 Karat Gold.
Believe it or not, this new synthetic cannabinoid was actually developed by the major pharmaceutical company Pfizer. The company created the drug in 2009, but apparently abandoned it and never tested it on humans.
The patent is public, though, so unscrupulous drug labs in China and other countries were able to find it and reproduce it. But how could a synthetic version of marijuana turn people into zombies?
Millions of people use marijuana and they’re just fine. It turns out there’s a big difference between real marijuana and so-called “synthetic marijuana”…
Not Marijuana At All

First of all, drugs like K2 and AK-47 24 Karat Gold have a completely different chemical structure than tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main agent in real marijuana.
The other problem is they’re not just substitutes for marijuana, as the name implies. In fact, AK-47 24 Karat Gold is 85 times more potent than THC. Yes, 85 TIMES!!!
You’ve problem already seen news stories about K2 and the various overdoses associated with it. It too is far more potent than THC, but AK-47 24 Karat Gold (I’ll never get tired of typing that name, by the way) is 50 times more potent than K2. That’s insane!
So remember, if you look out the window and see a horde of walkers headed your way, before you grab your shotgun and go for a headshot, make sure they actually pose a threat. It could just be a crowd of overdosed drug addicts!
