In each new season of The Walking Dead, we’re introduced to a new badass female who has done what it takes to survive.
- Enid lived off tortoises.
- Michonne walked around with two arm-less, tooth-less walkers.
- Carol will kill anyone who comes in her path if it means keeping herself and her crew alive.
Similarly, the new group at Oceanside is made up entirely of women. The group hides in the shadows and lives off the sea.
They kill anyone who enters their flock and does so without mercy. Oceanside is very different from the other communities we’ve met on The Walking Dead.
Oceanside in the Comics
In Robert Kirkman’s comic series by the same name, only recently introduced Oceanside. The show seems to exist around Issue 103 to Issue 111, and in the comics, Oceanside doesn’t come into the picture until around Issue 139.
As far as AMC’s version of The Walking Dead, it looks like the writers have decided to introduce every new group at once. We’ve met Alexandria, Hilltop, the Saviors, and now Oceanside. In theory, this would be so Rick (or someone) can unite the various groups to fight off the Saviors and free Daryl.
What’s Next for Oceanside on The Walking Dead?
Unlike the AMC version of the show, however, the comics haven’t even shown the base, and there are men living in the community. The men often go out on fishing trips where they feed themselves and other communities such as Alexandria and Hilltop on a trade route.
Since the introduction of Oceanside has been moved forward, perhaps the plot has also moved forward. Oceanside will most likely have a larger role in the series than they do in the comics. As of now, they certainly have more guns and less remorse than Alexandria or the other communities.
The good news about Oceanside being more involved (hypothetically) is that there will be a great deal more original content. Most likely, this will involve young actress Sydney Park, who plays Cyndie. She seems to be the most compassionate person in Oceanside since Negan killed off their men.
Do you think Oceanside should include men, or would it be better if it was a fully female community?
