Season 7’s premiere, where Negan killed Glenn and Abraham, has been one of the most talked about episodes of any show on AMC. Like the comic, Negan brutally killed Glenn and Abraham, plus the first half of the season stayed in that dynamic.

In a recent panel at the Walker Stalker Con in Nashville, TN, Glenn actor Steven Yeun finally opened up about his departure from the iconic series. Yeun surprised some fans by being so candid about everything.

Like other former cast members, he enjoys catching up at Con events.

“I actually found out I was going to die about two years before it happened,” said the actor. “It was like, not talked about. It was unsaid but it was understood that we were gonna do what we were supposed to do.”

“I advocated for that, too, because it could’ve been just me rationalizing it, what was inevitable, but at the same time, you look at that journey and you realize that is marked in such a dramatic way in the comic that to change it, I think is a cheat.”

“Maybe we did it too far. It was pretty bad but we did it and people remember it, so it’s cool.”

Glenn-Actor Said Gore Wasn’t Worse Than Previous Episodes

In terms of being too violent, Yeun said that he felt the “gore” is what upset fans of the show. “It was gory but it wasn’t any more gory than anything that we’ve shown before. I think what it was was just watching someone that you feel like you know getting killed that way and getting killed in a way that was not like, “Oh, man look at Noah getting ripped up…”

The actor added that he felt like audiences felt, “You couldn’t stop but you’re just gonna keep going and you’re gonna rub it in… That’s great that Glenn can have that type of place to effect people like that,” he said. “I mean, sorry, but mission accomplished…”

What do you think of the actor’s response to Glenn’s death?
