3Willingness To Sacrifice Yourself

At the end of The Walking Dead finale, Maggie reveals her thoughts on everything that happened and how that relates back to Glenn. At the moment she said, “To sacrifice for each other,” it’s clear that Negan was necessary for our heroes.
Her real point here is that Glenn was the sacrifice to save the others. When the episode then shows her sitting next to Sasha on the fallen tree (which resembles a scene from Out of Africa), it’s also true that Sasha sacrificed herself.
In a way, this is also true of Abraham, Benjamin, and even Richard.
Maggie Plans For The Future

On the most obvious level, Negan’s actions changed, altered, and improved Rick’s leadership. But they also made Maggie a leader. She was always strong-willed, but now she’s officially leading everyone to the future.
Maggie is the one thinking about the blueberry plants that last forty years and has a baby growing inside of her. Rick also fights for the future, but he often seems more focused on vengeance than helping the next generation of survivors.
Maggie will unite the past with the future.
