“We shall face men—some cornered into their role by circumstance, some desperate murderers thrilled by blood—we shall end them all,” said King Ezekiel. “We will honor and protect this life in the land of the dead.” Clearly, this is a tribute to the filmmaker George A. Romero.

Similar to Game of Thrones paying tribute to The Walking Dead, this is an homage to George A. Romero. This comment refers to the 2005 film, Land of the Dead, written and directed by George A. Romero.

Last year, this iconic filmmaker passed away, so it’s likely we’ll see more tribute to the creator.

The synopsis of the 2005 film reads, “The living dead have taken over the world, and the last humans live in a walled city to protect themselves as they come to grips with the situation.”

The zombie film stars Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, and Asia Argento. Written and directed by George A. Romero, this film showcases a different version of zombies that are starting to act like their former selves.

In the movie, we see walkers pumping gas and trying to find their former way of life.

On The Walking Dead, things were not so progressive. King Ezekiel crawled out from a pile of dead soldiers to find he was the final survivor. As he stood up to see the chaos around him, more tragedy followed.

The undead started to rise and come after the King. It was difficult for the King to get away once he realized he was shot in the leg. When it looked like things were over, one of his men helped him get away.

This man was shot and killed soon after. A Savior appeared to have the King by the throat, but Jerry saved him once more. Carol arrived when these two men were stranded. Later, Shiva the tiger saved Carol, Jerry, and King Ezekiel.

He lost his hope and his ability to be a leader despite how many times he was saved.

What did you think of this small tribute to George A. Romero?
