Actor Seth Gilliam Talks Dead
During the most recent episode of Talking Dead, Father Gabriel actor Seth Gilliam spoke about his excitement for The Walking Dead’s “New Best Friends.” After being hated for years, Father Gabriel is finally proving himself to the audience.
“We’d go to conventions and people would wait fifteen minutes and line up just to tell me how much they hated me,” said the actor. “I was over the moon with the reveal…” that Father Gabriel wasn’t betraying the group. “That’s the joy of the show. It leaves you guessing.”
However, actor Andrew Lincoln still felt Gabriel a little over zealous.
Andrew Lincoln On Father Gabriel’s Speech
In a Talking Dead clip, Rick Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln spoke about the relationship between Rick and Father Gabriel. When they see each at the junkyard, Father Gabriel reveals a little too much about Rick Grimes.
Andrew Lincoln revealed:
“It’s Father Gabriel’s idea. He throws me under the bus. ‘It’s Rick – he can do anything – he found me, even in here. Tell us what you want and we’ll get it.’ And I’m like, ‘Thanks, Gabriel…’ It’s a great sequence. It reminds me of Star Wars (Return of the Jedi) when he gets thrown in with that crazy beast, in the same sort of tone as Mad Max and Star Trek. Grace did such a beautiful job building that set. It’s going to be a beautiful, weird new landscape for the show.”
Despite this occurrence, it did seem to work out for the best after Rick fought Winslow.
Father Gabriel Is A New Man
Seth Gilliam enjoyed giving the speech that led to him taking the knife to Tamiel’s throat. He compared it to when Father Gabriel, being back in the pulpit, speaking to his congregation. It showed that the man can still be useful during dark times.
Wearing a white tank rather than his tradition Priest gear, Gilliam also believes that Gabriel would have been able to kill Tamiel if Rick had signaled for him to do so. “Absolutely,” said the actor. “He’s already shot the unarmed man in the face (during the initial Saviors attack). He’s crossed the line and I think he would have cut her throat.”
Perhaps Father Gabriel will find himself a new role in the world of the undead.
