Over the years, the characters on The Walking Dead who prove to be the most decent often have a short timeline. In the most recent season, Carl Grimes chose to follow this path and become the moral compass of the show.
Back in the first season, Dale was the moral compass. He was the character in the RV who taught Glenn Rhee a thing or two about vehicles. Not only was he one of the good guys, but he made sure others followed the right path as well.
Soon after, we met Hershel.
Before Carl Grimes, There Was Dale, Hershel…
Unlike Dale, Hershel had a few more flaws. Not only did he think that he could one-day cure the walkers, but he also enjoyed a drink. Nevertheless, the better he got, the more likely he was going to die.
Finally, outside of the prison, the Governor killed Hershel. Since he represented a beam of hope, the death was brutal to watch. In many ways, it changed the lives of Rick Grimes, Glenn Rhee, and his daughter, Maggie Greene.
Then there was Tyreese.
Making The Mistake Of Being Moral Compass
Like Dale and Hershel, Tyreese was too good of a person. Carol killed the people with him and he decided to forgive her. When he was with one of the Termites, he had to tie up the man rather than just kill him.
Because of how good he was, Tyreese also died. Whenever someone becomes too good, they risk their lives and shorten their timeline. In a way, this is also true for Glenn Rhee, who was the moral compass off and on for the series.
Finally, there’s Carl Grimes. In the last season, Carl has been the one to help Saddiq when no one else would. While he preached of hope versus action to his father, he didn’t know he was moments away from making a major mistake.
Not only did Carl Grimes decide to take in Saddiq, but he risked his life to do so. Because of Saddiq’s beliefs, Carl Grimes helped his new friend kill some walkers in order to honor the man’s parents.
Doing so caused him to get a bite and now he’s on his deathbed.
Do you think there’s any chance that Carl Grimes will survive?
