San Diego Comic-Con is still the biggest pop culture event of the year. All the latest trailers, news, and reveals come from that annual event. Nonetheless, the New York Comic Con is steadily gaining popularity these past few years. With The Walking Dead‘s seventh season beginning soon, NYCC was the source of a lot of new, crucial information.

Here’s a look at the most interesting new tidbits to come out of NYCC this year:

Carol is Safe From the World But Not Herself

One of the most popular characters on the show, Carol, was not among those lined up by Negan in the season finale. In fact, when Season 7 begins, Carol will find herself in a very protected place.

Both Carol and Morgan will begin the season in The Kingdom. The utopian/feudal society run by Ezekiel, a man who literally keeps a tiger by his side. Morgan may have come to Carol’s rescue last season, but it looks like it could have come at a cost.

“If you notice, at the end [of Season 6] when he shoots that Savior in order to save Carol, I think one bullet would have done it but he emptied the clip,” said actor Lennie James. “Those people who are begging for Morgan to return to the killer, be careful what you wish for.”

Meanwhile, Carol may be pushing herself closer and closer to suicide. “Every step she’s taken up to this moment has just devastated her up to this point,” said actress Melissa McBride at The Walking Dead‘s NYCC panel. “What is it about this world that makes us want to survive so much? That’s a huge question.”

Although the Carol of the comic books is very different from the one McBride portrays on the show, they could be meeting similar ends. In The Walking Dead comic, Carol loses her will to live and allows herself to be killed by walkers. McBride told ComicBook.com that the show’s Carol might be doing some mending this season:

“This is a different season. She’s definitely got some healing to do in her mind and where she wants to be on this earth, or [if] she wants to stick around or what.”

The Identity of Negan’s Victim is Narrowed Down

It’s no secret that one Walking Dead cast member will be meeting their end in the season premiere. The controversial final episode of Season 6 showed Negan bludgeoning someone to death — but their identity was left as a cliffhanger.

Ever since then, fans have been scrutinizing every frame of video for clues. A new clip from the season premiere may have the biggest clue of all, though.

At NYCC, producers screened a short clip from the upcoming premiere. The scene takes place immediately after Negan beats one of the gang to death. A visibly shaken Rick has a splatter of blood across his face. Since the blood is coming from Rick’s right side, we can assume those on his left must be safe.

That means Eugene, Sasha, Carl, and Aaron should survive the attack. That leaves Abraham, Maggie, Glenn, Daryl, Michonne, and Rosia as the possible victims.

The Walking Dead returns for Season 7 on October 23 at 9/8c on AMC.
