Andrew Lincoln Teases Emotional Farewell For Carl Grimes On The Walking Dead

“I’m not going to lie to you, that was sad,” said Andrew Lincoln to Entertainment Weekly. “The beautiful thing is it’s what we rarely do in our show — we actually give the opportunity for a goodbye.”

Specifically, Andrew Lincoln is referring to the quick deaths on the show. Aaron and Eric got a short goodbye (next to tree), but Abraham and Sasha got an even shorter goodbye (peace sign before Lucille killed him).

“It was unusual in that regard,” said the actor about the upcoming premiere.

“Usually, things happen and people are ripped from you in this world that we inhabit. Thankfully, there was some sense of catharsis on this one, because we got to leave it all out on the screen. I thought Chandler [Riggs] did a remarkable job, as he always has done, but particularly in this episode,” added Andrew Lincoln.

We’ve actually already seen some of this performance. In the mid-season finale, Chandler’s character already knew that he had been bitten, so he was acting in a way that he was the only one that knew his fate.

This made it all the more emotional when Rick and the others found out about the bite at the end of the episode.

As for Chandler Riggs, he had to carry this burden with him for even longer. Luckily for the actor, they’ve already filmed the second half of Season 8. In the ninth episode, we should see Chandler’s final scenes on The Walking Dead.

During the upcoming 82-minute premiere, the young actor will likely act his heart out as he gets to tell all of the other characters goodbye on screen. In fact, he may even have somewhat of an Andrea death from the comic book,

It’s easy to picture everyone coming to visit the character in his final moments, perhaps at Hilltop. If they somehow follow Andrea’s death, this might even include Negan somehow saying goodbye to Carl Grimes.

No matter what happens, we’re looking forward to seeing “The Last Stand” on the series. It’ll be terribly sad, but epic for fans of the show.

Do you think there’s any chance that Carl Grimes will survive the bite?
