Andrew Lincoln Reflects On Life As Rick Grimes
Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln said he never thought he would be on a show for this long. Now that he has played Rick Grimes so long on AMC, he says there is a real connection with fans of the series.
“I didn’t realize that I would ever play something for six years. You come in with six years of history with an audience who sit there with that knowledge and it takes the pressure off somewhat and makes it more real in a sense,” said the actor.
“You do your utmost to not disclose how you feel,” he said.

In addition to his own role on the show, Lincoln is also thrilled to now be working with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan on the show. The duo have gone head to head several times on the series.
“It is exciting because Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the thing and he emailed me the other day and said, “I am so excited to be around people that are so creative, so up for doing something and pushing it,” said Lincoln.
Lincoln’s fellow alumni from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art think it’s hilarious that the classically trained actor is now a famous zombie killer in the U.S.
Lincoln’s Actor Friends Joke About His Role
“The people I trained with at RADA think it is hilarious,” said Lincoln. “I am classically trained and yet I wear cowboy boots and a Stetson and I shoot zombies for a living,” joked Lincoln.
Andrew Lincoln prides the role because it’s not a horror as much as it is a western. Lincoln actually refers to the AMC series as an “apocalyptic Western.” This is even more so as the show moves on from walkers to true enemies like Negan.
