Reportedly, the exterior shots of Rick’s house in the TV series were filmed in Atlanta along the 800 block of Cherokee Avenue, right across the street from Grant Park.
“Hospital” in Atlanta
One of the most celebrated locations appearing in the show is the exterior of a commercial building located at 2353 Bolton Road. It was used to depict a hospital in the TV series. The saga begins here, when Rick rouses from a coma to discover that the world changed into a nightmare during his absence.
The Main Street of Senoia, a town located approximately 25 miles southeast of Atlanta, beside the intersection of State Route 16 and Highway 85, remains an irresistible magnet for fans. You will find many tourist shops and eateries here. Parts of several other well-known films and movies were shot in the vicinity (population approximately 3,500). The third, fourth and fifth seasons of The Walking Dead television show involved a lot of production in this picturesque small Southern town.
“The Prison” in Senoia
The “West Georgia Correctional Facility” from the show that you know and love is really just the back lot of Raleigh Studios Atlanta. It’s located on Chestlehurst road in Senoia, however, access is prohibited, meaning you probably have to know somebody who works there if you want to take a look around.
“CDC” in Atlanta
The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, located at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, provided one of the most famous exterior shots in the series. It doubled as the CDC (the Center for Disease Control and Prevention), a place where Rick eventually leads his brave band of human survivors. The actual CDC buildings in Atlanta were not depicted at all in the TV show.
