In the new film, Future ’38, American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson discusses his love for all things cinema. On The Big Bang Theory, Raj Koothrappali has landed a similar job as this beloved author and scientist.
Since 1996, Neil deGrasse Tyson has been the spokesman, announcer, and President of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York. He’s also been in several movies and guest starred on The Big Bang Theory.
Now, it would appear that Raj Koothrappali is the Neil deGrasse Tyson of Los Angeles, California.
Raj Koothrappali Follows Neil deGrasse Tyson
“Do we know if there’s life in the methane fumes of Enceladus? Or, under the icy surface of Europa?” asked Raj Koothrappali. “Come back on Tuesday for my next show to find out. Spoiler alert, we don’t.”
As Sheldon, Amy, Leonard, and Penny sat in seats nearby, Raj delivered a clever catchphrase to his listeners at the planetarium: “I’m Rajesh Koothrappali and thank you for taking a walk with me through the stars.”
The only problem is that Raj’s current success comes from a broken friendship.
Walking Through The Stars To Success
Raj Koothrappali has always looked up to Neil deGrasse Tyson, so it’s great that he’s following in similar footsteps. But, in order to do so, he had to step over his friendship with Howard Wolowitz.
After Raj was originally denied the job, he spoke with his father who told him to avoid the negative energy from Howard. Over the years, Howard has used Raj as his personal punching bag.
Most of the jokes on the show come at another person’s expense. Now, Raj has decided he’s tired of being the butt of the joke. Without Howard, he improved his wardrobe, landed the new job, and even met a girl on his first day of work.
In the next episode, Howard and Raj are going to have to work on a compromise. Hopefully, Raj will end up being less needy and Howard will be less of a bully.
Do you think these two can work it out and stay friends?
