Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch believe that The Big Bang Theory is successful because of the writing and because people care about the characters. While the show is a major success, the actresses had their struggles to land on such a successful juggernaut.
“It’s a show about the rest of us,” said Mayim Bialik. “The shows I watched as a kid were lots of attractive people hooking up in different permutations. Our show is not that. Our show is about the other people who don’t fit in.”
“I really do believe everyone can relate to being an underdog,” added Melissa Rauch about the iconic sitcom.
Mayim Bialik And Melissa Rauch Talk Big Bang
Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch joined the series around the third season. At the time, the series was a fan favorite but hadn’t received any critical acclaim. Mayim Bialik had been referenced before on the show as “that Blossom girl.”
Around the time Mayim Bialik landed the part on The Big Bang Theory (2010), she had also been on shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2010), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2005-2007), and various cartoons for voicework.
Back in 1990-1995, she led the series Blossom with Joey Lawrence.
Signing On To The Big Bang Theory
Melissa Rauch landed on The Big Bang Theory a year earlier in 2009. Around that time, she had landed small roles in the movie I Love You, Man and also starred on the show, Faith & Kim. Rauch also played a role on True Blood in 2010.
Amidst their various smaller roles, the girls certainly have landed on a sitcom that will go down in history. On The Big Bang Theory, both characters are married (or getting married) and will be around until the very end.
Mayim Bialik struggled to get beyond being a child actor and Melissa Rauch had her own struggles to stardom.
“The fact that I know I have a job to come back to after the summer is such a dream come true,” said Melissa Rauch. “I spent years waiting tables, standing on the street corner handing out flyers for people to come see stand-up comedy—this was definitely a dream come true.”
The actress said that she also has to constantly get her make-up touched up because she’s consistently grateful for the role.
