Kunal Nayyar Shares Intriguing Insights About His Amazing 6-Day Long Wedding

For Kunal Nayyar, it was love at first sight when he met former Miss India Neha Kapur. Not long after the duo met, they got married on December 22, 2011 in New Delhi, India. “I just felt so sure and so comfortable,” said Nayyar.

Kunal Nayyar said that not even poetry could begin to describe how he felt on his wedding day. However, while looking back on the big event, he also said that he looked like Liberace in the typical Indian attire.

The actor described this in his latest book, Yes, My Accent Is Real. Essentially, the wedding was a 6-day party for the families of the duo.

A day before the wedding, Kapur got her hands painted for the traditional ceremony. Unlike traditional American weddings, the big event for the celebrity Indian couple actually lasted nearly a week.

“The men feed the women because they have to wait for the henna to dry,” explained Kunal Nayyar. Kapur’s design was specific to her own life and took around three hours to complete.

On the big day, there were a variety of outfits involved.

“Until I go into the wedding venue, no one is supposed to see the groom,” said Kunal Nayyar. The groom arrived on horseback in an elaborately beaded headpiece. Friends and family followed the actor on foot.

“Each circle symbolizes something about marriage,” said Nayyar about another ceremony that involved a circle of fire. During the ceremony, the priest recited a series of prayers to bless the couple.

Marriage is a big family event in India. Both sides feel honored that they can come together and create one large family. In total, around 1,000 guests came to see the couple get married.

“We were just having some alone time,” said Nayyar about the reception. After the wedding, the couple said they were “very relaxed after six days of partying.” Nayyar put on a traditional tuxedo for the reception.
