After a long battle, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak have just bought the film rights to Michael Ausiello’s acclaimed memoir, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies. In addition, Parsons also plans to star in the film.
Deadline writes, “In his heartbreaking, tragicomic memoir, Ausiello told the story of the eleven month span between when his partner, photographer Kit Cowan, got a diagnosis of terminal cancer, and his passing.”
The memoir sounds somewhat similar to the Tom Hanks film, Philadelphia, so there could be Oscar buzz for Jim Parsons.
Jim Parsons Buys Heartbreaking Memoir
Beyond the heartache, the story focuses around the couple and their love story. The book talks about their first encounter, various ups and downs, and the various obstacles they faced during their 14-year relationship.
The writer, Michael Ausiello, is also the producer of the film. In addition to his work as an author, he is the founder and editor in chief of Deadline’s sister website, TV Line, which covers entertainment articles.
The story is very personal for all of those involved with the project.
An Opportunity For Greatness
Over the years, we’ve really only seen Jim Parsons in comedic roles. However, even as Sheldon Cooper, he has had his heartfelt moments. This season alone, he’s reminded us that even Spock can have feelings.
In many ways, Sheldon Cooper began as a one-dimensional character. After the pilot episode, his genius continued to grow as his reality slipped away. Sheldon was too smart for his own good and unlike anyone else on television.
A decade later and he’s engaged, involved, and engrossing to watch. In this small intimate moments on The Big Bang Theory, we get to see the best of Jim Parsons as he portrays the iconic Sheldon Cooper.
When Sheldon told Amy his true feelings at the city hall or when he took the time to plan a romantic birthday dinner, he proved to be worthy of her love. In this new role, Parsons will get an even bigger chance to be a star.
