Back in the 1990s, there was a lot of series, but none as famous as the show, Friends. But, a new series has emerged to create a time capsule for this time in history: The Big Bang Theory.
Forward writes, “For whatever reason, the television viewing masses saw themselves in [Friends] and so many watched it for so long that it became one of the most-watched television shows in history.”
The series, which showcased a group of friends in New York who fell in and out of love in their 20s, went off the air long ago. Today, times have changed, but love, loss, and relationships will always be a staple for sitcom television.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ Surpasses ‘Friends’
Currently, most of the characters on The Big Bang Theory are taken. Like Friends, there have been crushes between the many characters (mainly Howard hitting on everyone), but now everyone has found their match.
Penny and Leonard are married and possibly considering children. Howard and Bernadette are married and have a second child on the way. Now, Amy and Sheldon are also preparing to get married this season.
That just leaves Raj and Stuart to live the Friends lifestyle.
Famous Sitcom Fundamentals
On Friends, the ongoing will-they-won’t-they happened between Ross and Rachel. On The Big Bang Theory, it was always clear that Leonard had a crush on Penny, but everyone was surprised when she finally gave him a chance.
Now, there’s a rumor that The Big Bang Theory will be coming to an end after the 12th Season. Regardless, the new series has already passed Friends, so it’s likely it will rule the roost for a period of time before another series passes it.
Having a show that lasts a decade is not an easy task. Most shows simply do not want to keep going, due to actors on the show or fans. Even The Office and Parks and Rec decided to leave early after a few cast members left.
On The Big Bang Theory, however, it appears that the cast is going to stick around for at least twelve seasons.
