The CBS website recently put out a piece titled, “How to Be Your Best Self, According to Sheldon Cooper.” Since Sheldon is an interesting and much-loved character, I thought why not put these steps through an analysis and see just how high on the “best self” scale Dr. Sheldon Cooper ranks.
You Don’t Need to Swear
There’s no need to be a potty mouth.

The next time you feel like cursing, remember that you can get your point across just as effectively with some PG-rated language. As Sheldon says, “You can hurt people just as well without [swear words] … No muss, no fuss, not a single cuss!”
While Sheldon is correct, you can indeed hurt people without swearing. Think about your days back on the playground when “nerd, geek, and loser” were thrown around. However, nerd and geek are terms of endearment nowadays.
Besides, it’s hard for some adults not to swear. Especially when you stub your toe. Would you be able to follow this one?
Never Leave Home Without a Paper Clip
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you desperately needed a binding agent for your important documents/concert posters/fliers/etc.? Do as Sheldon does, and always be prepared.
After all, “You never know when two pieces of paper might temporarily need fastening in the top-left corner.”
Some might find this one to be a bit silly, but I can see why this would be a good idea. I can’t tell you how many times I was stuck in my college classes with a big paper due with no stapler or even paper clip. Some professors take off for unkempt papers, you know.
Ask for Help If You Need It
Sheldon may be a genius, but he can’t possibly do everything by himself. Without the help of his family and friends, this theoretical physicist would rarely make it around town, know what “Kardashian” is, or survive flu season!
The next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or just plain sniffly, reach out to someone who’s got your back – and can potentially apply some decongestant ointment.
After all, what are friends for if not for applying VapoRub?
I find this one to be a bit sketchy. Not for being a good person. But, for Sheldon. It seems like his pride sometimes gets in the way of asking for help. What do you guys think?
Allow Yourself to Be Vulnerable
Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary, but it can also be rewarding.
Initially, Sheldon had his reservations about being intimate with his long-time girlfriend. However, once he let go of his inhibitions and fears, he enjoyed sharing a more personal bond with her – even if the bonding only happens once a year!
I can definitely agree with this one.
