The Big Bang Theory has been on the air for so long we hardly remember what life was like before it. Over the years we’ve picked up many interesting tidbits of knowledge about the cast and the production itself. Now it’s time to test your fan knowledge- how many of these Big Bang Theory facts did you already know?
1) Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki Always Do This
Even the most well versed Big Bang Theory fans might not know this particular fact unless they’ve attended a live taping of the show themselves.
Over the years, the cast has created many traditions and one involves both Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki. The old exes (we’ll get into that later) approach the audience after every single taping and answer questions from the crowd. Talk about gracious stars. Despite being two of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, they’re still willing to take the time to interact with fans.
Because the show films in front of a live audience, the cast experiences the same type of come-down a professional athlete or rock star might feel after a show. Kaley Cuoco once shared, “I go home, and I’m a little bit hyped up, so I have a glass of red wine, sit with the dogs. I don’t go straight to bed because I’m sort of all over the place. I kind of zone out.”
Johnny has a similar routine but he also pointed out that the work never really stops. Because the producers and writers don’t work in advanced, actors aren’t given a new script until the very last minute. Johnny explained, “But go out to the audience and take a bow after the episode, they then hand us a warm manilla envelope… sometimes they don’t even say ‘Hey, good show!’ They give us the script, and it’s like, ‘Go to work!’”
2) They Secretly Dated
This one isn’t a huge secret. But some individuals who joined the fandom later on in the series might be surprised to hear that Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki secretly dated during the first and second seasons of the show. The pair kept the relationship under wraps for its entire duration. The news didn’t break about the coupling until after they had already decoupled.
Kaley and Johnny’s relationship didn’t only affect the two actors. Their producers and writers were aware as well. At this year’s Comic-Con, Steve Holland shared a hilarious memory about walking into a lovers’ quarrel. He recalled, “It was our first year here, it was ten years ago and it was 1:30 in the morning and I was going past the hotel bar and I saw my co-workers, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki…I thought, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go hang out with them.’ I didn’t know a) They were secretly dating and b) They were right in the middle of a fight, so I walked up and I could see she’s about to cry and I’m like, ‘I’m gonna go.’ And [Kaley’s like], ‘No, it’s fine! No, stay!”
Kaley now admits that she comes to Steve for all her relationship problems, specifically because of this moment. It’s crazy to think that she almost wasn’t even a part of the show.
