A recent Big Bang Theory episode seemed to allude to a future pregnancy for Penny and Leonard. However, Big Bang Theory writers are shooting down the idea. Looks like there won’t be a Hofstadter baby in season 12.
Steve Holland, Big Bang Theory writer
Steve Holland, a well versed Big Bang Theory writer all but confirmed that Penny will NOT be pregnant in season 12 of TBBT. Last week’s new episode showed Bernadette and Howard bring their baby boy into the world. It also alluded to Penny and Leonard having children of their own. Neil Michael was born into the world surrounded by friends and family, and it would seem Penny and Leonard might want that experience too.
However, the Big Bang Theory writers are apparently sick of writing about pregnancy. Steve Holland said, “It’s too early to talk about what happens next season, but we’ve now done two seasons of pregnancy stories and, for me, that’s probably enough.” If that wasn’t indication enough that the writers are OVER this story line, they also made jokes about Bernadette’s pregnancy being too long throughout the entire episode. It seems the writers were feeling the pain just like Bernadette was.
Holland also stated that the writers found it difficult to make Bernadette’s pregnancy story with Neil different from that with Halley’s. There are only so many pregnancy jokes you can make after all. However, we argue that Penny and Leonard are an entirely different couple, and they would have totally different struggles.
The Season Finale
As for what to expect in the season finale, we think a wedding is about to go down. Since Neil was born in an earlier episode, the only major event to save for a finale would be Sheldon and Amy getting married. In regards to the nuptials, Steve said, “We haven’t written the finale yet, but we’ve certainly been building to it all season.”
We think it would be a great way to end the season. Plus, the honeymoon could be a hilarious Big Bang Theory season 12 premiere. It’s a win win for writers and producers. Do you think the Big Bang Theory writers will go for it?
