Stephen Hawking sadly passed away early Wednesday morning. As the Big Bang Theory cast, and science community mourns, we remember Hawking’s time on The Big Bang Theory set.
Stephen Hawking passed away early in the morning on March 14th. Many fans were quick to point out that this “pi day” was a perfect day for the genius physicist to go. The Big Bang Theory cast mourned by writing messages on Instagram. Johnny Galecki said, “RIP #stephenhawking Not only your brilliance, but your sense of humor will be sorely missed by all. “Life would be tragic if it weren’t funny.” — Stephen Hawking”
Kaley Cuoco shared a similar picture, writing, “It was truly such an honor getting to work with the incredible Stephen Hawking.. He made us laugh and we made him laugh. His life and career workings have been many a subject matter on @thebigbangtheory__ and we are all better for it…”
Simon Helberg shared all about Hawking’s guest star appearance on the Conan show. He said, “He really lit up when he got to meet Kaley from the show…” and also noted that Hawking was a big TBBT fan long before coming on the program.
Rolling Up Like A Rock Star
Simon also shared that Stephen Hawking rolled up on set looking like a rock star. He remembered, “We’d always mentioned him. He’d always been this sort of dream guest. They got him and he had shot a scene a Cal Tech. And he wanted to watch a run through, a rehearsal. They asked if it was okay with us for this genius to come down. We of course said yes.
He said he emerged on set looking like something out of a movie. Simon said, “It was just so surreal. They opened the giant stage doors and he was like silhouetted from behind…It was a man in a wheel chair with all these cool British guys behind him.”
Simon also had to do her own impersonation of Hawking in front of Hawking while filming the episode. He said, “He’s severely disabled, and I am kind of making fun of his voice…” The actor was nervous, but got the okay from producers. He performed the impersonation and then got up and saluted the scientist. He said, “He smiled, and it was like the craziest thing…”
We hope Stephen Hawking is resting in peace, and we are so thankful for his time on Big Bang.
