I did write a previous article about how Simon Helberg played an admirer of Hilary Duff’s in A Cinderella Story. He must have really liked teen based media, because he was also in Sabrina the Teenage Witch with the 90s teen queen, Melissa Joan Heart. What was he doing there? Let’s find out!

But first, a short interlude. For those of you who might not be familiar with Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, it was a 90s-early 2000s sitcom. It starred Melissa Joan Heart as Sabrina, a teenage witch, obviously. She lives with her two insanely funny aunts, who are also witches. Sabrina must make her way through high school, while being a witch, and hilarity ensues. They also had a talking cat named Salem, who was the bomb. This show is also very hot right now because it just hit its 20th anniversary.

Apparently, Helberg only appeared in one episode. His role was “the Spokesman” in the episode called Time After Time. This episode aired in 2002 and was a part of season six. The show ran for a total of seven seasons.

In Time After Time, Sabrina mixes old fashioned witchcraft with modern technology to help Zelda mend a long time broken heart, but the spell backfires altering Spellman family history and erasing Sabrina. Simon Helberg played the owner of www.visitthepast.com – a fictional website. I’m pretty sure that’s how she managed to do all that as well. But that’s just a guess. So, Simon wasn’t actually on screen. What a bummer. Oh, wait I found a picture! But anyway, the episode premiered on March 15, 2002.

Fear not though, because Simon did manage to pull in other roles before the Big Bang Theory. He has appeared in MADtv, Old School, Mama’s Boy, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

Simon pretty much grew up in the entertainment industry as his father is an actor and his mother is a casting director. The industry is in his blood, but the comedic chops just may be all his own.

Simon has also done some voice acting. He is Bian Zao on the Kung Fu Panda TV series and Napoleon on the 2014 version of the Tom and Jerry show. So, there you go! A Simon Helberg performance more suitable for your kids!

Other known work that Helberg has done seems to be projects that didn’t quite get off the ground. Some of these examples include, 2001’s Popular, he played Gus Latrine in one episode. In Judd Aptow’s other one season show, Undeclared, Helberg played Jack in one episode. Here’s one you may know, he played Seth in the Friends spin-off, Joey.

So, maybe his TV career before Big Bang Theory wasn’t so great. But, he was a regular on MADtv. Fans of the Big Bang Theory can take comfort in the fact that Simon Helberg is here to stay as Howard Walowitz. I also take comfort in the fact that Helberg played Moist in the cult smash Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. FYI he also directed and starred in his own film, We’ll Never Have Paris.
