4Hero or Heretic?
The midseason finale of The Walking Dead ended with a touching reunion. After several weeks of imprisonment by Negan, Daryl and Rick finally came face to face once more. There’s still one lingering question, though: who helped Daryl escape?
There are only two real possibilities. It could have been Jesus, who we had just seen infiltrating the Sanctuary. Or it could have been Dwight’s wife, Sherry, who has always shown a sense of compassion toward Daryl. Jesus did meet up with Daryl just as he was retrieving his motorcycle (and killing “Fat” Joey), but that doesn’t necessarily mean he was the one who gave Daryl the note and the key.
Yahoo spoke to actress Christine Evangelista, who plays Sherry, about her character’s involvement. “If there are any questions about that, I think we’ll find out soon,” she says. “We’ll find out soon enough.”
Evangelista refused to confirm whether Sherry would return in Season 7. She did, however, explain why Sherry has been so kind to Daryl. “I think there’s also this thing in Daryl that reminds her of who Dwight used to be, before he turned, before he became a murderer in her eyes. Before they separated.
“I think she looks at Daryl as this … It’s sad. I think she definitely feels guilt for what she did to [Daryl], even though he tried to help her and her family at the time, but I think she’s sort of looking at him now with this longing, like, ‘Oh, I don’t want what happened to Dwight to happen to you,’ if there’s anything that she could do. I think that’s sort of where she is.”
