Because of Sadie Robertson’s fame from Duck Dynasty, America has watched her fall in and out of love. But it’s not a problem for her — she opens up about a cheating boyfriend in her recent blog post.

Even after nasty breakups, she says there’s one Bible verse that reminds her how to love. The verse “allows us to understand the meaning of the love God has for us” she writes.

“Maybe Valentine’s Day has been a bad one for some of you today or in the past,” she says. “Maybe you were lied to, cheated on, felt lonely, battled with not feeling loved, and questioned your future. I want to speak some truth into your life, and help give you a perspective from the One who created you.”

And, as she unveils, she is all too familiar with feeling these things. She talks about her bad experience with a boyfriend.

“One Valentine’s Day I found out my boyfriend was cheating on me by a lovely picture of him kissing another girl at a movie while I was out of town,” she says. “I have had someone who I thought loved me say words that were the furthest thing from love. I have been convinced that there is no such thing as a fairy tale love. I have been in relationships where I couldn’t even imagine a man saying that he delighted in me.”

She then describes one day where she “felt uglier than I have ever felt.” She was fighting anxiety, self-worth problems, and feeling unworthy…

Sadie saw herself as “ugly”

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. Blog Post & Video coming later tonight about the love I have found, and how it has completely changed my life. I was reading my blog post to these 2 girls in our uber ride to make sure it was good, and the uber driver politely interrupted by saying “wow. I’m about to cry. That was lovely, and I really needed to hear that. Thank you for sharing.” A middle aged man in Los Angeles, California. This kind of love is completely contagious. Read about it soon ?

“I looked in the mirror that day with the ugliest self-view, but yet that day I have never experienced so much beauty because I felt a hug of love from our Father telling me that I was beautiful and worth it,” she says.

So what’s the Bible verse she turns to when love seems far away? It’s 1 John 4:18-21…

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

She then calls her readers to action as a reaction to this verse.

“Read some of the truth of this chapter, and let it sink in that God is love,” she says. “It is our job to see that, so that we can share that. Let’s continue to share the beauty of love in this dark and sometimes hate-filled world.”
