1Strong Emotions Between Daryl And Carol

Much like Rick and Daryl’s bromantic hug, Carol and Daryl’s reunion was equally emotionally. Daryl knocked at her door after the King had just left. All he was really able to do is ask why she left. Once he found out, he couldn’t tell her the truth.
“Daryl’s seen how far she’s gone to preserve something of her own life,” confirmed Norman Reedus. “If you lose yourself 100 percent, what’s the point of anything. We’ve watched her leave and come back and kill and not kill. He’s seen her go through that, and it’s a very selfless act to tell her everyone was okay. She means more to him than anything else.”
Reedus concluded, “He’s protecting her inside and outside.”

When filming the reunion scene, Reedus also said he and Melissa McBride are equally close. When they first shot the scene, they both started crying. After seeing other experience these emotions for seven years, they have a strong connection.
Norman Reedus’ character essentially buries his emotions and “grits his teeth.” However, when these moments do happen, and he feels connected with someone like Rick or Carol, he “wears his heart on his sleeve.”
It’s tough to see someone like that breakdown, which is what makes the scene with Carol and Daryl so strong.
