As you surely know, Jase and Missy Robertson’s daughter, Mia, was born with a cleft lip and pallet. And they have learned a lot about life and God through it.
Missy published a book, Blessed, Blessed… Blessed, about this situation and what she’s learned from it. And, boy, this is a tough lesson to learn.
“I wanted to write this book because of being blessed by this incident,” Missy told Fox News. “And I know that sounds like a very odd way of saying that, but when you have a child diagnosed with severe medical problems, you don’t think about being blessed at the very beginning of that trial.”
Mia was born at 37 weeks and at just 17 days young, she had her first procedure. Obviously, this has been tough for the whole family — Mia’s dad, Jase, and her brothers, Reed and Cole. But Missy, the steady matriarch of this Robertson clan, grew in wisdom from this trial.
“She’s 12-years-old now, and I can truly say without a shadow of a doubt how blessed we are through her,” she said.
She sees this situation as a way to spread God’s love…
Missy looks at this Biblically.
“I’ve thought about the opportunities God has given us in this life and the parable of the talents — to me, this is like a talent, an opportunity,” she said. “Because we could have buried this and just wallowed in our own pity, worried about our own problems… but instead we wanted to take this ‘talent,’ this opportunity and just ten fold and bless other people with it.”
And Missy is helping a ton of other kids with cleft pallets and lips — she founded the Mia Moo Fund, which seeks “to inform, inspire, and improve the quality of life for children born with cleft lip/palate.”
