Phil Robertson isn’t one to mince words. He’s had plenty of controversial moments over the years. But does his family always back him up? The answer might surprise you.
His Views on Gun Control
One of Phil’s most recent brow-raising moments included guns. In an interview about gun control and the President’s recent proposal to arm schools, Phil said, “Because there’s been so much carnage from time to time in our schools, I don’t disagree with [President Trump’s] assessment.” He explained, “People just come in the way they’ve done in some of these schools and start shooting up the place. I would feel better about it if my children were in that school, if someone- and I would have to stress that they’d have to be fully trained and know fire arms and be fully vetted- but I would say at least they’d have had a better chance if that were the case.”
Many liberals were outraged that Phil would suggest putting guns anywhere near children. However, he made it very clear- these people would need to be vetted and properly trained.
He also believes the answer to mass shootings is not stricter gun laws but more Jesus. A Facebook video of his received quite a bit of attention. It featured the Duck Dynasty patriarch holding a semi-automatic weapon and a Bible. He said, “So I have here an earthly weapon. It’s a firearm. I would never want to use that against another man… This is also a weapon.” He then held up his trusty Bible. He continued, “It’s called a sword– the sword of the spirit. You want to stop murder worldwide? You’re focusing on the wrong weapon. This, this will stop human beings from murdering one another.”
Of course, this wasn’t the first time Phil has ruffled feathers over an online video.
