Every Duck Dynasty fan knows that Si Robertson drinks a lot of tea. But have you ever really thought about what that means for our favorite Uncle’s health? Here’s what a doctor had to say about the crazy habit.
When Did Si Robertson Start Drinking Tea?
Si’s tea drinking habits weren’t just a schtick for the show. He’s been consuming tea every single day in high volumes since his time in Vietnam. Many fans recognize Si by his bright blue tea cup. He carries it in nearly every Duck Dynasty scene. You can even buy one of your own on Amazon. Si explained, “My mama sent me that to me when I was in Vietnam—she put it in a boot and then put two jars of jalapeno peppers in each boot. I love my jalapeno peppers.”
Of course, back then tea wasn’t the only thing Si was drinking. He admits, “Although I was there for only one year, it was a really difficult time in my life… Believe me, it was easy to find a drink in Can Tho if you wanted one… You could find a drink and a girl whenever you wanted for the right price.”
The stress of Vietnam and being so far away from family weighed on Si. He wrote in his book, “It was the only time in my life when I drank heavily… I was largely drinking to forget where I was. When you’re in a place like Vietnam, you get to a point where you don’t care any more. You’re in a place that’s foreign to you, and you know for a fact that many people there hate you and will kill you if they get the chance. It really does something to your mind to know that many of the people living around you don’t like you and want you to die.”
So how did he quit the habit?

However, just as easily as he picked up the habit, he put it down. He explained, “I drank so much beer and whiskey in Vietnam that I decided I would quit drinking alcohol altogether once I returned home… I saw what alcohol was doing to me in Vietnam and realized I needed to stop for good.” Seems like Robertson has a good head on his shoulders, and nipped trouble in the butt before it got to him. However, not everyone believes he hasn’t spiked his tea over the years.
